Democrats Should Reverse Their Stance On Bitcoin

Last month at the New York Times DealBook Summit, political analyst and media personality Van Jones admitted that the Democrats made a fatal mistake in not only largely disregarding the crypto voter but in acting against them during the last election cycle and more broadly during President Biden’s time in office.

“50 million people bought some crypto — that’s a bet on [the] future,” said Jones.

“They’re trying to get to a better future. Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren beating the hell out of crypto was not smart,” he added.

Jones is one of the first prominent Democrats to publicly admit post election that the Democrats should have invited those who hold bitcoin and crypto into the party instead of pushing them away.

The questions now are Will other well-known Democrats follow Jones’s lead? and What would their policy proposals look like if they did?

The latter question is particularly important because while Democrats may begin to say they’re “pro-crypto,” the devil is in the details.

For example, when I interviewed former Congressman Wiley Nickel (D-NC), one of the few outspoken bitcoin and crypto proponents in the Democratic party last year, I asked him if he’d support the right for bitcoin and crypto owners to hold their private keys.

This was his response:

“In Congress, we’ve really focused on doing a few things before we get into the next level of stuff. It’s about regulating the industry, FIT21, the digital assets market structure bill and stablecoins. We’ve gotten sidetracked with SAB121 for custodial banking.

Those are the things that I think we need to tackle first, and then we get into the next layer of stuff, and I’m really hopeful we’re going to get those things done this Congress.”

The right to hold one’s private keys is the “first level of stuff” in my book, and his lack of a direct response to my question worried me, especially when juxtaposed with what Trump said on the matter at the Libertarian National Convention in May 2024:

“I will support the right to self-custody [for] the nation’s 50 million crypto holders.” -Donald J. Trump

So, if the Democrats are to start shifting their rhetoric when it comes to Bitcoin and crypto, they’re also going to need to come correct when it comes to policy proposals if they plan to win over the voters they lost in this previous election cycle come midterm elections.

Bitcoin Plunges Below $100K Despite Positive Coinbase Premium Signal – What’s Next?

Published

on

Este artículo también está disponible en español.

Bitcoin (BTC) has seen bullish but unsteady price action in early 2025, with recent data highlighting shifting sentiment among US investors. After briefly crossing the $102,000 mark yesterday, the asset has struggled to maintain upward momentum, shedding most of its recent gains as it stands at just below $100,000.

These developments coincide with critical insights from key on-chain metrics that offer a clearer view of Bitcoin’s short-term trajectory.

Bitcoin’s Price Struggles Despite Positive Coinbase Premium Index Signal

A CryptoQuant analyst known as Burak Kesmeci recently shared insights on the Coinbase Premium Index (CPI), which turned positive for the first time in 2025. The CPI measures the price difference between Bitcoin on Coinbase and other global exchanges, serving as a crucial indicator of US investor sentiment.

Alongside this positive shift, a notable 4,012 BTC outflow from Coinbase was recorded, signaling renewed buying interest among US-based investors. Historically, such patterns have been associated with a rise in buying pressure, often laying the groundwork for potential price surges.

Despite these positive signals, Bitcoin’s price performance remains restrained. After briefly surpassing $102,000 on December 6, Bitcoin retreated and now trades below $100,000, reflecting a modest 3.3% decrease over the past 24 hours.

This price mark from the largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization puts it at approximately 8.9% below its all-time high of $108,135, achieved in December 2024.

Bitcoin Faces Key Resistance Levels

Notably, the current price action from BTC suggests that while buying pressure exists, it may not yet be sufficient to trigger another strong rally.

According to cryptocurrency analyst Ali, Bitcoin maintains a critical support zone between $95,400 and $98,400, where over 1.77 million addresses collectively hold 1.53 million BTC.

This support zone remains essential for stabilizing Bitcoin’s price amid market uncertainty. Conversely, resistance appears limited, with only 107,000 BTC supply positioned between $104,700 and $105,770. This relatively thin resistance could pave the way for upward movement if buying pressure intensifies.

Meanwhile, zooming out, analysts remain bullish overall on Bitcoin. Captain Faibik for instance has recently shared his outlook on BTC suggesting that the asset is still poised for a rally to $112,000.

Coinbase (COIN) Stock Could Become Available on Base Chain, According to Creator Jesse Pollak

Published

on

The creator of Base, the blockchain of top US-based crypto exchange Coinbase, says that the company’s stock (COIN) could soon become available on-chain.

In a new thread on the social media platform X, Base developer Jesse Pollak says that eventually, every asset in the world will be on Base, including COIN.

However, Pollak notes that some traders can already access COIN on Base through asset tokenization protocol Backed.fi, adding that regulatory clarity would “unlock” it for everyone.

According to Pollak, Coinbase has not yet formulated concrete plans to bring over real-world assets to the blockchain, which launched in August 2023 as an Ethereum (ETH) layer-2 scaling solution.

“And to clarify even further: there are no concrete plans right now. We are in an exploratory phase and working to understand what needs to be unlocked from a regulatory perspective to bring assets like COIN to Base in a safe, compliant, future-looking way. Still day one.”

Looking at a longer arc of time, Pollak reiterates Base’s plans to see the blockchain as the backbone of global transactions.

“Base’s north star is to build a global economy, on-chain… We are going to bring $1 trillion+ assets to Base and it’s going to happen faster than anyone expects – still day one.”

A crypto trader with a keen eye for artificial intelligence (AI) projects has reportedly amassed profits of more than $17 million from several AI-focused tokens, and on-chain data now points to a pivot toward fresh memecoins. According to an analysis shared by Lookonchain on X, the trader’s largest gains stem from early positions taken in GOAT, ai16z, Fartcoin, and ARC.

Crypto Trader Turns AI Coins Into $17 Million

Lookonchain reports via X, “What a smart AI coin trader! Profits exceeded $5.14M on GOAT. Profits exceeded $4.5M on ai16z. Profits exceeded $4M on Fartcoin. Profits exceeded $4M on arc. Let’s take a look at which tokens he is buying.”

The trader’s most significant win reportedly came from GOAT. He entered the token at a time when its overall market cap was below $2 million dollars, spending around $62,000 to purchase approximately 11.1 million GOAT tokens. After riding GOAT’s rapid ascent, he sold all GOAT with a total of about $5.2 million, netting an estimated $5.14 million.

His performance with ai16z – a decentralized AI-powered trading fund on the Solana blockchain – is similarly impressive, as he spent one $123,000 to acquire 6.17 million tokens at a market cap of $22 million. Lookonchain’s data indicates that he sold 4.67 million ai16z tokens at around $1.78 each and still retains 2.65 million tokens currently valued near $2.9 million. According to Lookonchain, this amounts to a total ai16z profit of more than $4.5 million.

The analysis also highlights significant gains from Fartcoin, which the trader bought at a market cap of under $7 million, paying $121,000 for around 9.46 million tokens. He sold 6.81 million of those tokens for $610,000 while keeping 2.65 million tokens that are collectively valued at $3.55 million, bringing his net profit on Fartcoin to roughly $4 million.

A similar pattern emerged in his ARC position, where he invested $212,000 to acquire 11.6 million ARC tokens when the project’s market cap was approximately $15 million. After selling 1.6 million tokens for $212,000, he currently holds 10 million arc tokens worth about $4 million, resulting in another $4 million profit.

Lookonchain’s post also details the trader’s recent moves into several smaller-cap memecoins, including CREATE, PIPPIN, SANDY, MOLE, and FORGE. A screenshot provided by Lookonchain shows that he financed part of these purchases by selling Fartcoin in two batches of 25,000 units for $31,446.35 and $29,681.37, respectively.

Additional funding appears to have come from selling Wrapped SOL (WSOL) in multiple transactions, including 100 units for $21,611, 50 units for $10,805.50, and 153 units for $33,069.42.

The distribution of these WSOL sales suggests a methodical approach to securing liquidity before deploying funds into CREATE, PIPPIN, SANDY, MOLE, and FORGE. In total, he allocated $202,255 to acquire stakes in the memecoins. He spent $61,127 on CREATE, $21,611 on PIPPIN, $21,611 on SANDY, $65,486 on MOLE, and $32,420 on FORGE.

At press time, GOAT traded at $0.52.
